Of course, most of these schemes are a waste of time at best, and at worst they are a way to lose a lot of money without making any back! Your best bet – if you want to work from home – is to either A) Start a business of your own, or B) Find something that people hire out for. As with any “work from home” job that is truly work (and not just a get rich quick scheme!), it will take a while to get started. This means that you will have to build up to the time when you can work from home full-time; do not quit your day job right away!

You will need to build a portfolio and a resume when you are pursuing work in freelance writing, and this can often mean taking on work for cheap or even for free early on. You should start out by talking to people you know who run their own business, seeing if they need any writing themselves. You might even be able to start doing some extra work for your company, depending on the sort of company you work for.

After you have started to build a bit of a portfolio, you will be ready to look for freelance jobs that offer pay – but not high pay. Of course, you can always look for high-paying jobs; but your goal during this time should be to pick up as many jobs as you can, as quickly as possible. The more quickly you are able to pick up new writing jobs, the more quickly you can build your portfolio!

There are plenty of websites that enable freelance writers to look for work; a simple Google search will help you find these sites. The more you build your portfolio, the more easily you will be able to land higher-paying jobs; over time, you will be able to get these high-paying jobs to come your way consistently, and you will soon be on your way to quitting your day job and working from home full-time!
